Christie Angel

Christie Angel joined YWCA Columbus, one of Central Ohio’s most respected social justice organizations, in 2017 as Chief Executive Officer. The organization plays a dual role in the community as both a social service provider and an advocate for reform and justice, serving more than 5000 families, women and girls annually.

Christie leverages her change management and community experience after working more than two decades in the private and public sectors of Columbus. It is her love of her city and desire to create environments for people to thrive in—those in the community and YWCA staff—that is the driving force behind her leading YWCA Columbus. Under her leadership, the YWCA Family Center for homeless families received a $2.5 million dollar grant from the Day 1 Families Fund to provide innovative rehousing services to homeless families. Christie is now boldly guiding the agency through the COVID-19 pandemic and the current social justice movement with the transformation of the agency’s Leadership and Social Justice Department and the launch of a new racial equity training program. Christie also helped form a coalition of African American government, nonprofit and religious leaders to reform practices that reinforce systemic racism in Central Ohio such as declaring racism a public health crisis, police reform and other action items.

Prior to joining YWCA Columbus, Christie was principal of government relations and public affairs for Calfee Strategic Solutions. She provided counsel and advisory services to businesses and non-profit organizations on local government, business strategies, and community relations matters.

Previously, Christie was deputy chief of staff and external affairs and services director to former Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman where she served as a chief advisor to then Mayor Coleman on government relations, business, non-profit and community matters. Christie also worked in the corporate government and community relations field for a Fortune 10 telecommunications company and a boutique consulting firm. She also spent the early years of her career working for Columbus City Council and in the non-profit sector on housing and homeless issues.

Christie prides herself on being socially conscious. She is an active and engaged member of Columbus’ civic and business communities. Christie currently serves on the boards of Campus Partners for Community Urban Redevelopment, the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Human Service Chamber of Franklin County. She is a member of the Columbus Chapter of the Links, Inc. and the International Women’s Forum.

Christie and her husband, Otto Beatty, III, reside in Downtown Columbus with Betty, their Toy Fox Terrier.
