Mahoning Valley Regional Conference Recap

The Mahoning Valley Regional Conference was held in Warren on Friday, October 1, 2021.  It began with a panel on the Mahoning Valley’s Military Economy, where panelists discussed the important role military installations play in the Valley’s regional economy. Conversations focused on the numerous opportunities at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Trumbull County’s largest employer, as well as Camp Garfield and through the private sector defense supply chain.

In the next session, The Future of the Lordstown Smart Logistics Hub, panelists discussed the infrastructure initiative in the Mahoning Valley which seeks to capitalize on Lordstown’s location. Experts shared plans for multiple modes of transportation, broadband, and electrification to position the region into a premier logistics hub in the Midwest.

These panels were followed by an informative analysis of the Ohio Auditor’s Office given by Auditor of State Keith Faber and commentary from Senator Michael Rulli discussing bringing jobs back to the Valley and the correlation between unemployment and difficulty hiring.

In the last panel, Revolutionizing Manufacturing in the Mahoning Valley, panelists discussed manufacturing innovation in the Mahoning Valley and its impact on Northeast Ohio’s economy and workforce. Issues including additive manufacturing and advancements in technology and machining were covered.
